Overview

The objectives of this research are to comprehensively investigate the early modern sermons held in the Omiya Library of our university; to make accurate annotated bibliographical notes (including commentaries); and to make portions of the texts available to researchers and general experts. The results of the research will be reported in the Zempōn Sōsho. However, in order to address the current research situation, where the use of electronic materials is becoming more common, we plan to hold thorough discussions about our editorial policy.
Research involving the creation of bibliographic data will be carried out in a planned manner by full-time faculty members and part-time lecturers (researchers specializing in Japanese literature who are members of this research group and will be managed by a research representative. Members of this research project will then hold a reserach group to select materials to be included in the Zempōn Sōsho. The commentary sections of the Zempōn Sōsho will be compiled in stages, based on knowledge gained from research meetings held to receive advice and guidance from researchers across multiple fields.
Through the above-mentioned research activities, we aim to lay the foundations for research into the early modern sermons. We also hope to enhance the academic sources of information for the benefit of missionaries engaged in carrying on the traditional forms of propagation (such as fushidan sermons and illustrations).
